Shilling for my show:

I'm the costumer for a show opening tomorrow: T.S. Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral. It is about the murder of Thomas Beckett and is being performed *in* St Mary's cathedral downtown. Which is just an awesome setting for this story! To highlight the timelessness of Beckett's story the director's vision was to span the centuries costume-wise (what do you mean I can't just put everyone in T-tunics?!?!?! :) ). I think it works tho, and if I do say so myself it has created some very effective imagery. More info on dates, times, etc. may be found here: http://blessedthomas.blogspot.com/

Here are a couple of pics of the costumes from the first costume check. Behind cut.....
First pic is the four knights that came to murder Beckett. No Himself is not in the show, he was standing in for one of the actors who couldn't be there so we could still see all the costumes together.

And yes, that is a man in tights. You think I would pass up the opportunity :)?

Second is the same four as the 'temptors' of Beckett in the first act. Yes, that is Devon in the lt blue shirt but we ended up switching it out to a red one. SCA-folk may recognize Logan Munro from the Champagne Players in the confederate uniform.

Then a few of the Women of Canterbury who are the chorus for the story

Note to self; need to be sure and get a pic of the cope and mitre.....

Come and see it :)!

I know this is just a costume check, but when I saw this pic I couldn't help but sing "Here's to you, Good Costume Bad Shoe Guy!"

Not to mention the jeans :). Shoes are always a challenge for historic costume. I try at least for something plain and not glaringly modern, to aware that they often need to maneuver around in the dark on uneven surfaces.

First thing I thought when I saw the "Ladies", though, was that you needed a "PussyCat Doll As Moulin Rouge" chick hidden in there somewhere....
but then I am Evil.... ;-)

Oh, I'm sure it'll be brilliant! I wish I could see it; that's one of my favorite stories from the period.

I wanted to line the women up in chronological order of their costumes! Anyone else tempted to play "fastest fingers?"

By the way, have a totally foxy birthday.
