Saturday Update
May. 3rd, 2008 11:26 pmSo the KCPL trucks were working on our line when I got home. Cut for length GP beat me by a few minutes and said they had the power on, whew. Still happy I decided to cancel a trip planned for today as I could stay home and deal with branchs, refrigerator and getting our tree service to check out our lines. We still have one tree in back that has a limb over our houseline. KCPL will not trim trees that threaten pole-to-house lines so it is ours to deal with. They did move the big tree that almost knocked the pole over so they could fix it. This was the tree right on the property line with our neighbors to the north that just keeled over at the root. They are great neighbors though, no fight over whose responsibility it was, which we were ready to share (and W even tried to pull down one of the threatening limbs while the crew was here, and handy to fix it :) ). W also has a chainsaw so much sawdust flew this afternoon and he is willing to loan it to GP this week. There is still a LARGE branch from the silvermaple that needs to be cut up. Love our tree service, they were ready to come out asap if we needed them to cut up anything for KCPL to be able to do their job and were very honest of their assessment of the surviving part of the silvermaple and not trying to wring any more $$ out of us (the rest will eventually go but this part is angled so that it won't go down on the powerline, plus no buildings are in range so, don't waste the $$).
And since I was going to be home for the weekend I am very glad to have the power back up but after finally being able to catch the news reports on all the damage in the area, especially up north, I know we were very very lucky compared to other parts of town. Our house is undamaged and our power is back on, much to be thankful for.
Thanks to everyone who offered assistance, very nice to know I had fallbacks.
