Akkkk, where did it all come from!!!

Ok, that's really a rhetorical question, I know where it came from but sheeeesh.......

Cut for fabric angst....
Went down into the sweatshop last night (my sewing room in the basement), thought maybe I could work a little on one of the to-do-list projects. Ummm, not really. Where did all this schtuff come from!!!! The real problem is that I am at a crossroads in my sewing goals. I still enjoy costuming, still have several projects I want to do some day, plus everyday sewing, so I need the sewing room BUT I don't need all the misc. schtuff I used to pick up because oh, I might need it some day. I don't need the two plastic trash barrels full of scraps because I couldn't bear to throw away the fabric. I need to get all the linen in one place so I will not be tempted by a good sale because, well, can never have enough linen :). I used to feel that way about good sportweight cotton too. That stash has been whittled down, need to address the last of it. I also have tons of brocade scraps saved from a variety of sources over the years that I wanted to do a couple of projects out of. One is done (queen-sized quilt, just needs the binding) and two others are a little further along in the planning stage, enough so that I could probably sort out what I *really* need to keep BUT, that takes time and room, sigh. There there are the crafting areas I keep thinking about dipping into, like doll making. Their small, don't need a lot of fabric, but since I don't know what I want to make yet, what scraps do I keep and what do I throw away?

I know, throw it all away and let God sort it out!!! Oh wait, that was Charlemagne :) :) :).

Then there is the fabric addiction that is soooo hard to fight. I still loves the pretty fabrics :). Not to mention if it is on sale and/or a really good bargain (found some great stuff at garage sales, etc., over the years). But while we are by no means rich enough to buy whatever fabric we want, I have the resources, and know the places, to find decent prices for a particular project at almost any given time so I don't really *need* to pick up bargains just because I might some day need it. At least I keep trying to tell myself that but so far it hasn't slowed me down much (there was this really great green medievally brocade last summer.....)

So, once again, I need to get down to the roots and start clearing out to be able to find a place for what I am using, what I want to do. Sigh.

But can I get some of it done before the garage sale in April.....

Scraps of white linen can be given to Master Mighel for papermaking or, if they are big enough for a coif, Alina is making kazillions of coifs (don't know if she wants other fabrics or colors, but it wouldn't hurt to ask). I keep a bag near my cutting table to save scraps of white linen in because it kills me to throw it away and Mighel makes nice paper. :)

I have lots of linen scraps to donate to such a good cause. I can bring them bagged to give to Dean when I see him in May, if that would help.

Great! I've already told him about the one delivery, I'll warn him it will be a bigger bag :). May is good timing, I can pass this off at Lilies.

Perfect! I'll start collecting the linen scraps in a labelled bag. I have a couple friends coming in April for a huge sewing room clean-up and reorg so it's perfect timing for me too.

I'd forgotten about Mighel's papermaking, thanks for the reminder. Hadn't known about Alina's project. I will setup bags to toss scraps into for both of them.
