is not dead.

Meant to post about this sooner but since I'm finally here now:

Two weeks ago, at the beginning of this miserable heat weave, I got a call from our campus police department. Someone had noticed a tire had gone flat on my car and was kind enough to report it to the CP, who were kind enough to call me. They also offered to reinflate it when I was ready to try and leave. All of the above was really nice; that someone noticed, called it in, offer to reinflate but CRAP!

I'm sure there has never been a flat tire at a GOOD time and this was definately not one of those. I'm at work, the offer to reinflate is appreciated but I will not know if it will hold, or hold long enough to drive somewhere to get it fixed, thus possibly stranding me somewhere. Himself, of course, would come and get me but has an urgent meeting right after work, etc., etc.. I've changed lots of tires myself in the past but that is pretty much out of the question now because of the hip. CRAP CRAP and DOUBLE CRAP!!!!!

So all this is running through my head and I am ranting under my breath, trying to figure out the best course of action, when my co-worker returns from a late lunch. Hearing the situation, without a hesitation, he said "give me your keys, I'll go change it".

I did mention the heat wave, right?

R and I have worked together for a couple years now and I think we have a good working relationship. He is a good guy but this offer was a surprise. We went over the details for a few minutes and he was serious so, gratefully, I accepted. It really didn't take him very long but he apologized for not being faster. It was done easily in time for me to leave work a bit early and get new tires taken care of by late evening. I knew the spare was in good condition so I had peace of mind driving to the shop. Himself could make his meeting without worrying about me.

I thanked R most sincerely the next day, and then brought him a bag of dark chocolate. I think he appreciated it :).

So from crap came a positive experience. Not bad :).
