Where has the time gone

Yeah I know, she's posting, alert the media :)! I hadn't realized it had been so long but I think it was because I was sort of waiting to get some resolution on a health issue.
Cut for more info than probably anyone wants to know as some folks know, I've had some increasing problems with one of my hips. Long story short, I have problems with arthritis, partially due to hypothryroidism over the years. Anyway, the left hip became significantly worse about 2 years ago and I have been making the rounds of Doctors trying to find a solution. Yup, loosing weight was always in there, but that is a little difficult when you can't exercise darn it! Kept getting worse and, worst of all, caused me to break a bone in the foot on my *good* leg. Dealing with that was the final straw for the hip but, just in time, it turned out my foot surgeon also does hip replacements (and has a good rep for them too) and is willing to do a total hip replacement on me. So to make a long story short (I know, too late!) I am scheduled for a THR on Dec 17th. I should be out of the hospital and home in time for Christmas but won't be doing anything much for the holidays and several weeks there after. Rehab is up in the air until they see how the surgery goes. The new hip will be titanium but thanks to the large frame bequethed to my by my viking ancestors my bones are to large for the conservative hip replacement. It will only be partially conservative, but still gives me a shot at another THR down the road if I need one.
The thought of major surgery is pretty scarey of course, despite having had several over the last dozen years or so, but just about every other person I have mentioned this to has either had a THR or knows someone who has had one and the improvement in quality of life, not to mention relief from the pain (think bone-on-bone) is dramatic. At this point I have no other options so I going for it. I wish it could have been at a better time of year, especially for DH and his work schedule, he has been so great and supportive through all this, but I'm not sure I how I would make it through the winter so it was now or never.
Ok, enough about all that. Assuming the weather lets us get out of town, or even around in town, we will be seeing a whoooole lot of family in just a 24 hour period. Wednesday evening is DH's family, thursday afternoon is mine. DH has a large family (6 siblings, 5 of which are married and have 12 kids between them, plus a great-nephew) but was all manage to pack into SiL's house and have made buffets an art form. My mother has decided to add to our usual modest number (6-8) with members from both sides of the tree. Uncle & cousins coming from Salina, one cousin allready here from Florida, 2 more coming from up north (Wisconsin?) and another 3 possibly coming from Maryland. It will be nice to see them but OY, what a crowd! This is all in my aunt's old house in Leavenworth which we will just barely fit into. I guess I should be thanking my luck stars that the hip won't let me stand for long periods of time, which means I can get out of washing the dishes :) :) :).
