Many things to catch up on
Jun. 28th, 2005 03:26 pmI've been trying to post here since we got back from vacation but everything was so hectic. The last couple of weeks have been really great; a couple of anniversaries and our usual, always-looked-forward-to vacation camping with friends.
The 2 anniversaries were our 20th wedding anniversary on the 15th, and the 6 month anniversary of my new hip on the 17th. The latter has prompted me to do some self-review but what we did to celebrate the former is what I want to remember in this post. Cut for length....
Whew, 20 years, where have they gone :). Both DH and I had vacation that week. We always surprise each other with a few presents and then make it a point to go out to eat somewhere new, together, for the first time. Usually one or the other of us has a couple of places in mind for the celebratory meal but this year, for some reason, we were both coming up blank. The weekend before I had been out at camp with our friends and asked for some recommendations but nothing stood out. DH was at the Sedalia faire and did the same thing. In doing so he learned that one of the performers we have know for several years at the KC faire, and who was also at Sedalia, was a cook. I take that back, he is a Chef, and was currently working at a fairly new restaurant in KC called the Dragonfly Grill. Menu was reported to be aisian. He was working the lunch hour so we decided why not, called to be sure of directions, and headed out after the lunch crowd would have died down.
Turned out to have been a slow day so JG was very glad to see us. And the food was great! (Don't just take my word for it, here is a review in The Pitch that came out that same week: http://www.pitch.com/Issues/2005-06-16/dining/cafe.html). Turns out JG is the Executive Chef and designed the menu. We were seated in a very roomy booth, JG asked if there was anything in particular we didn't like, and then the food just keep coming. We both liked the 'little plates' offered on the menu (as well as full entrees), as it was great fun to try so many different dishes. It would be a great place for groups of friends who like to dine out, everyone gets two or three plates and then you share. The Pitch thought KC would have a problem with this concept however, hope they are wrong. We liked pretty much everything JG served us but I think our favorite was the Aisian Port Meatlof, it just melted in our mouths. The scallops were very tasty too, we wanted a straw to enjoy every drop of the sauce :).
So we had a very enjoyable anniversary lunch; had the restaurant pretty much to ourselves, our own 'personal' chef :), who we also had a nice visit with. All in all a nice relaxing day, and no I am not going to jl about the rest of it :) :) :).
