From rougewench: What do you collect? Be brave...even list the embarrassing stuff. I'd like to know what you pack away in your living space, what you can't put down in a Wal-Mart or a flea market, what you can't stop yourself from buying from Amazon. I think you'll find we're all pretty much the same...meaning, we hoard the oddest things for sometimes the oddest reasons, and most often not so odd reasons...

Interesting to think about. I had some obvious things I 'collected' but upon reflection a few other items could be added as well.

Here goes; better cut for possible length

Foxes. But not anyandall foxes (had to get very firm with my mother about this as I was getting all the 'cutsey/foxy' stuff from her). What I like about foxes is their beautiful silhoutte when they are alert, the gorgeous coat (preferably living) and their profile with those great ears and sharp nose. Oh yeah, and that awesome tail :). I like many of the plush ones out there but recently decided this bunch needs to be pared down a bit. Thanks to eBay, I have quite a selection of foxes in different mediums including amber. I am also a bargain shopper so part of the thrill of my foxhunt is finding a bargain. I hope to soon add a pair of kitsune shinto guardians to the collection.

Hedgehogs. This one got started fairly recently due to my hobby of bobbin lace. Due to the large amount of pins usually amassed on a lace pillow, hedgehogs are the mascot for many lacers. Again, I'm not collecting anyandall hedgehogs, just the ones I find appealing.

Historical Costume and/or embroidery books. This has morphed over the years as my skills and knowledge have grown. I do not have as many of the basic books anymore and now focus more on primary sources.

Books in general. There is just something about a good book :). At various times I have collected all available titles on Tolkein, Sherlock Homes, Georgette Heyer and Anne McCaffrey. It helped I was working in/owned a bookstore at the time :). I still have a many of my favorites of the above but pared them down a few years ago. Current area of interest is historical mysteries but am getting picky about the authors I read. DH has all of Candace Robb's titles.

Just remembered the Star Trek and Star Wars books. Again, this was when I had easy access so I picked up all the titles. Another collection that has been pared down over the years.

Comics. Not as much these days but I still have a stash of the runs I collected in the 70's and part of the 80's. Anyone remember when Wonder Woman gave up her powers :)?

Fabric. Does this qualify as a collection? Maybe more of an ever changing stash :)?

Art Nouveau. If I ever won the lottery big time, this would be a dangerous field for me as I would love to collect AN prints, jewelry, etc. As it is, I have managed to limit myself to an occasional bargain piece, a couple of posters and several books on the subject.

Emeralds. Is this collecting :)? Again, not something I can easily afford but I have a small collection and enjoy hunting for interesting pieces of the natural ore.

Crescent Moon and Star items. Mostly pins. Just a motif I like and have found many interesting variations on the theme. Not picky about where I look; Wal-mart, flea markets, etc. Again, finding a bargain on a nice piece is part of the joy of the hunt.

Pocket Dragons. Yeah, those cute little buggers really appeal to me :). Probably doesn't hurt that the artist and his wife are old friends. Again, this is one of those things that I don't *have* to have ALL of. I have collected all the Christmas themed PD's over the years but there is one or two others each year that also appeal to me that I pick up.

All this got me to thinking about why I collect. Except for with the books, I have never really been about *having* to have ALL of an item. There are things that make me smile (the PD's, a well executed fox figure) when I look at them so maybe it is an endoprhin thing? Whatever, it's not hurting anyone and we have always made our housepayment so what the heck!
