Fast update from the weekend as it has been a busy busy monday (Both Dell & UPS problems in one morning, Yuk!). Cut for possible length

We got up early saturday morning and headed for Wichita and a long day of events. Had perfect weather for a drive, only problem was when I tried to just top of the tank before hitting the road. I knew it would be less than $10 but every pump I stopped at was prepay or use a card. I didn't know how much it would be so I couldn't prepay, and I find it vaguely silly to put that small an amount on the card. Sigh. I do have one of those ID cards QT was so smart to start doing but naturally, could not find a QT on our route. Eventually just filled up and got on the road. Minor irritation to start the trip with but we made excellent time.

Site for the event was a church camp NW of Wichita. Surrounded by trees so there was a nice ambience around the list field. One of our friends got close enough in the tournament to get the adrenaline going, and scare his teenage daughter half to death....she watched his final fights with her hands over her eyes :). Some great fighting all around during the tournament.

One of the highlights of the day for me was getting to actually walk around, with out the stick! I know I used it at faire but this ground was pretty level so I gave it a try. So nice to feel like I was walking normal again :). Visited with a lot of friends I had not seen for awhile and had a fun fiber farble under our sunfly. Had a little bit of a scare as we were helping to pack up the fly (we share a LARGE one with some friends) when the leg didn't lift up quite enough to clear a pile of chairs I was stepping over and I almost tripped but managed to save myself from falling. Got a short lecture from my long-time campmates to watch my footing :).

From Crown we went into the city for a short visit with Lee and Joe, the 'egg shop folks' at KCRF. We needed to pickup a couple of things from them while in Wichita so they let us change clothes for our evening event, and we still had time for a visit. Had no problem spotting their house; it is the same colors as their shop at faire :). Got to meet all 4 cats, the dog, 2 rats and assorted fish. Several of the cats remained in the bedroom to supervise the change of clothes :).

From there we went to a place called Cowtown. I had not know this place existed in Wichita and may have to check it out again in the daylight. Apparently someone has rescued a collection of 19th century buildings and put them together in a town setting. The wedding reception we were attending was in one of these buildings, a small early theater. Had a bit of a walk down an appropriately lit street to get to this building but it looked like it could be fun. There is also apparently a colony of cats living there as several came out to greet us :). Reception was fun, saw more old friends and got to play with the table decorations (tic-tac-toe, pyramids and trebuchet attempts. Tried to fire-up the cinnamon sticks but they wouldn't light).

We knew lots of folks in town but it was going to be a hectic weekend to add last minute crashers so we decided to go ahead and get a hotel for saturday night. Found a nice one with a pool and hottub that was open late :). Hit the road fairly early in the morning to be sure DH was back in time for a possible call-back. Again, weather was perfect and traffic was light so we made it home by 11:30. Unpacked and started laundery, then went out to try Mimi's Cafe for my B-day. We had never been there before and really enjoyed it. Who ever thought of frying up dill pickle slices like chips had a great idea, very addictive! Way to much food, I had leftovers for lunch today :). So saturday was full and sunday was laid-back, all in all a pretty good weekend.
