Serenity continues
Nov. 18th, 2005 09:26 amSo I went out last weekend and tried to find a copy of the Firefly Soundtrack DVD that was so highly recommended by gammera-spinning. No luck, I checked Best Buy, Borders (remembering thedarkbear's post, Thanks!) and Target, zip. Asked clerks at BB and Brdrs about it. Only one was familiar with the title but upon looking it up, both stores had sold out of their original shipments and had it on reorder. According to the computer, one of the Borders in town still had a few but it had already been a long saturday and I really didn't want to drive that far. I was offered the option of ordering it at both BB and Brdrs but admit I was a little frustrated by then and figured if I was going to have to wait I would just order from Amazon (sorry darkbear :) ).
But this got me to thinking about the release of Serenity in December. Obviously, whomever was ordering, or recommending amounts to be ordered, of the Firefly soundtrack, did not understand the market there would be for this and under ordered. Could this happen with the DVD? DH says there are no 'dumps' listed for the movie. Dumps are those bin's of DVD's, books, etc., you see stores place on the end of aisles or in prominent places on the floor. They make for easy displays and they are also an easy large quantity for the shippers to have pre-packed and ready to go. Given that no dumps are being offered and that there will be 3 separate formats to choose from (VSH, DVD regular screen, DVD wide-screen) and marketing does not yet seem to appreciate the appeal this movie will have, I strongly suggest anyone really wanting this for Christmas go ahead and pre-order the format of their choice from the commercial resource of their choice.
