Dress tech went well last night, (cut for rambling) especially considering that 3 of the costumes were not done until yesterday (two different seamstresses) and I was putting the grommets into one of them as the actress was doing hair and make-up. I left at break to get the buttons & buttonholes done on the last doublet (one of those that was finished yesterday) but all was going well. Had had some worries about this doublet as it is one of the actors in the swordfight but they had a chance to run the fight a couple of times with him pinned into it and all went well.

Added snaps to one robe and still have to take in the waistband on one pair of pants but that was it. Things seemed to be going waaaay to smoothly and I was waiting for the other shoe to drop when I got an email from one of the actresses who had managed to find her costume on eBay. Her underblouse was satin and I was kind of worried about it but she really liked it so I didn't say anything. Well, she has only worn it about 4 times, only an hour or so at a time, and the fabric is shredding at the seams! She has been restitching this herself but is running out of fabric and finally sent up an SOS. I think I have a chemise she can use (may have to take a couple of tucks for length) but I am urging her to contact the seller about a replacement. I don't think this fabric would have held up long but this was way to fast for the seams to disintegrate like they are.

On a whole, this has been a pretty good bunch of performers to work with. VERY different from rennies so they were not used to period-style costuming. I think some of them are getting 'it' however and I think finally being in costume has helped put the finishing touches on their characters. Ophelia in particular was having a ball last night, floating around the stage in her 'pretty princess dress' as she called it :).

Dress rehearsal again tonight and tomorrow, final dress with review audience on thursday, then opening night on friday. I'm going for the whole rehearsal tonight, skipping wednesday, then back for the thursday and friday shows. I'm telling everyone I'm available for loose buttons, seam repairs, etc., during the run, but cleaning is up to them!

So is all the costuming completely period? Heck No :). This is theater, and community theater (ie; volunteers and limited budgets) to boot. I am reasonably happy with the period look however so, baring anymore shoes waiting to drop, maybe I can start to breath again.........at least by friday :).
