Scratch, scratch.......
Aug. 12th, 2008 11:03 amSo one of the joys of aging seems to be aquiring new allergies. I was lucky as a kid, didn't really have any but as I've gotten older they have developed, especially skin sensitivity to things like, oh, adhesive tape and neosporin. Cut for oversharing....
Bugs seem to love me too, if there is anything with 6-8 legs in a 5-mile radius, it will find, and dine, on me. Want to check your house for fleas? have me, or one of my sisters, walk through it. Just once will do.
This is part of the reason I didn't catch on to what I now think was an allergic reaction to a new hair care product. Some sort of biting something had shown up in the hosue recently (probably due to all the rain) and since I was finding bites we did a major clean/vacum/wash in the bedroom. I picked up a couple more bites as expected but then on friday started getting rashy patches on my forearms. Didn't think much at first, probably a little contact dermititus from the cleaning, but they didn't go away and started to get larger, still mostly on my arms. It wasn't until monday morning when I had a bit of numbness on part of my face that it must be an allergic reaction but to what? No new laundery products, clothing, food, etc....oh wait, I tried Wen on my hair, and the first time was thursday evening, repeat on saturday. Hmmmmm....
By now I had a rashy patch on my back and the power of subjective thinking was making a couple of other places itch too. Fortunately I had a Benadryl handy and that got me through a couple of more hours at work then I headed home to shower and wash, wash, wash my hair. Had stopped on the way home to stock up on Benadryl and it was probably fate; there was a two-4-one special on the topical cream :).
Seems a little better this morning, at least it hasn't gotten any worse. Still taking Benadryl and using the cream. I'm giving it another day before I declare Wen the official culprit however.
It is times like these though that those nails of mine are a disadvantage, especially when I scratch in my sleep. My arms are going to be a bit of a mess for awhile.

Date: 2008-08-12 09:34 pm (UTC)We're in process of getting rid of as many chemicals as possible around here. Am down to Simplicity laundry soap and vinegar for the wash, am trying Green Works for cleaning products - Himself gets itchy from EVERYTHING, but the SImplicity seems to be working.
