Got a good start on a big project last night. Never touched the sewing machine :)! But a difficult layout is coming together. More tweaking tonight and I may be able to start sewing this weekend. Don't mean to tease but the final look is going to be a surprise to someone on LJ (they know about it, just not the final look) so yeah, I'm hedging. I'll take pics and post as I get further along.

And I was crusing ebay this morning, window/bargain shopping, and saw this .

The last couple of years I have found that my interests in sewing are not neccessarily confined to the 16th century (or earlier). I seem to have developed a curiosity about everyday sewing from early in the 20th century and parts of the 19th century. eBay is a fun place to cruise for these odd bits and these sewing caddy's tend to turn up fairly frequently. Basic construction is about 30-36 in. high, each half is 15-16 in wide. Folded depth 5-6 in. Construction varies and most seem to be homemade. Some of the ones I have seen also have a small shelf that folds down. I know that one company, 'Sew Tidy' actually made and sold some caddies but I have a hunch that instructions were also available in some of the sewing magazines from the first half of the last century, just haven't been able to find them yet. I can see this being a very handy place to keep quite a lot of basic sewing supplies which can then be conveniently tucked out of the way and pretty safe from small children.

Wouldn't work for me though, way to much Stuff :)!

Yeah, me too...surprise, huh? I have over a dozen small nesting spice jars that I keep 'some' of my buttons in and another supposed-garage organizer for some more and then another bag fulll...and that's just buttons.

My whole sewing room isn't safe for children!

"...for the serious sewer and craftsperson?"

HA HA HA HA!

Have these people ever met any serious crafters? Or seen their workspaces?

That little thing might work for holding the stuff I was using on any one current project...

Wow, forgot about those - I more often see the "table" ones with the fabric bag underneath for your sewing/knitting whatever.
Will have to show Himself that, and let him get busy with scrap wood!
