Another quiet weekend
Oct. 27th, 2008 10:19 amAnother mostly quiet weekend, and most of saturday was spent with family.
Saturday was my side's Fall birthday get together (we tend to do these seasonally) at the younger sister's house, which is now also my mother's. Yup, she is officially moved to KC! They are having an open house next weekend to make it all official but this was family. Nice visit and Himself cleaned up on toys and books :).
Next stop was with Himself's family, 5 oclock Mass at the family church (yes, I went and the heavens did not open up :) ). The occasion was the dedication and blessing of the second window the in-laws had sponsored in one of the chapels there (this is a fairly new church, as in less that 10 years old). I'd missed the first one so I'm glad I could make this second one, I know it meant a lot to the in-laws. There was a 'Fiesta' dinner afterwards with a strolling mariachi band which was fun :).
All of the above produced one of those six-degrees-of-separation moments: At the B-day with my family we had mentioned our next event of the day and my younger sister asked if we knew who had made the stained glass window, the husband of someone she works with did SG windows but he had passed away recently. We had no idea who had made the window but, fast forward to the end of mass when they made the dedication and; yup, it was the same guy. In fact, as the priest related, he had done all the stained glass windows for the church (in a very nice contemporary style) and this was the last one waiting to get done, it just needed a sponsor. The artist had been diagnosed with an illness that was going to stop him from being able to work glass anymore so he had told the church he was going to go ahead and finish this last window, that he knew a sponsor would be found. Sure enough, the day after he passed away my in-laws stepped foward. I called my sister when we got home to let her know it was the artist she knew and she said his passing had been very sudden, from a fall at home this summer. She was going to tell her friend at work today about how sometimes it is really a small small world.
Sunday was another quiet day. Himself had a rehearsal but we meet nottygypsy and purpledumbass for breakfast before hand. I enjoyed a little of the weather but it was quite windy so the bulk of the afternoon was in the sweatshop sorting a few things out and prepping some linen for another project. I'm finally feeling like I have most of my energy back so several sewing and stitching projects are called my name.......
