Ok, that's really a rhetorical question, I know where it came from but sheeeesh.......

Cut for fabric angst....
Went down into the sweatshop last night (my sewing room in the basement), thought maybe I could work a little on one of the to-do-list projects. Ummm, not really. Where did all this schtuff come from!!!! The real problem is that I am at a crossroads in my sewing goals. I still enjoy costuming, still have several projects I want to do some day, plus everyday sewing, so I need the sewing room BUT I don't need all the misc. schtuff I used to pick up because oh, I might need it some day. I don't need the two plastic trash barrels full of scraps because I couldn't bear to throw away the fabric. I need to get all the linen in one place so I will not be tempted by a good sale because, well, can never have enough linen :). I used to feel that way about good sportweight cotton too. That stash has been whittled down, need to address the last of it. I also have tons of brocade scraps saved from a variety of sources over the years that I wanted to do a couple of projects out of. One is done (queen-sized quilt, just needs the binding) and two others are a little further along in the planning stage, enough so that I could probably sort out what I *really* need to keep BUT, that takes time and room, sigh. There there are the crafting areas I keep thinking about dipping into, like doll making. Their small, don't need a lot of fabric, but since I don't know what I want to make yet, what scraps do I keep and what do I throw away?

I know, throw it all away and let God sort it out!!! Oh wait, that was Charlemagne :) :) :).

Then there is the fabric addiction that is soooo hard to fight. I still loves the pretty fabrics :). Not to mention if it is on sale and/or a really good bargain (found some great stuff at garage sales, etc., over the years). But while we are by no means rich enough to buy whatever fabric we want, I have the resources, and know the places, to find decent prices for a particular project at almost any given time so I don't really *need* to pick up bargains just because I might some day need it. At least I keep trying to tell myself that but so far it hasn't slowed me down much (there was this really great green medievally brocade last summer.....)

So, once again, I need to get down to the roots and start clearing out to be able to find a place for what I am using, what I want to do. Sigh.

But can I get some of it done before the garage sale in April.....

I recently used wadded-up scrap fabric instead of packing peanuts to mail some delicate items. It cost a little more, but the recipient was thrilled!

I also have the phone number of a woman who came to pick up my scraps last time they threatened to take over. Let me know if you want her contact info. She used them for some sort of social good project...

I like to use fabric to wrap yule gifts, kind of a double present :), altho another excuse to keep stuff around, sigh. I'll keep your friend in mind if I can get all this organized into one dump.
